His candidacy was supported by all 2952 deputies who took part in the voting.

Xi also retained the post of chairman of the Central Military Council.

In addition, Han Zheng, First Vice Premier of the State Council, was elected Vice President of the People's Republic of China, and Zhao Leji, a member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, became Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.

Previously, the Chinese Constitution prohibited the same person from leading the country for more than two terms. However, in 2018, China's basic law was amended and now the number of terms is unlimited.

The post of President of the People's Republic of China was established in 1954. Mao Zedong was the first to take this position. In 1975, the post of chairman of the PRC was abolished, but seven years later it was restored.
