Dissident and human rights activist Sergei Grigoryants has died. This was reported by his daughter Anna.
Grigoryants was 81 years old. The cause of death, as well as the date and place of the funeral, were not reported.
During the years of the USSR, Grigoryants was twice imprisoned on charges of "anti-Soviet agitation and propaganda." In 1987 he was amnestied and released. Soon he began publishing the Glasnost magazine, which criticized the communist system.
In 2014, Grigoryants condemned Russian aggression against Ukraine and filed a complaint with an international court in The Hague demanding a criminal trial against Vladimir Putin.
