The Prosecutor General's Office recognized the NPO Solidarus, registered in Germany, as “undesirable.”

The Prosecutor General's Office declared the NPO Solidarus registered in Germany "undesirable". Information about this appeared on the website of the department.

The project, as stated on its website, is engaged in "supporting civil society and monitoring the human rights situation in Russia and the countries of the former USSR." Solidarus studies political emigration and freedom of assembly, organizes "intercultural dialogues", and supports other projects in the field of human rights and freedoms.

“It has been established that the organization’s activities are aimed at inspiring protest moods in Russian society, attempts to generate false information about the alleged illegality of certain actions of the Russian authorities in terms of restricting the rights and freedoms of citizens in the Russian Federation,” the Prosecutor General’s Office noted.

According to the department, the project "interferes in the internal affairs of the Russian Federation, which poses a threat to the foundations of the constitutional order, territorial integrity and security of the state."

• Organizations that the authorities consider foreign or international, as well as representing a “threat to the foundations of the constitutional order of the Russian Federation, the country's defense capability or the security of the state” can be recognized as “undesirable” in accordance with Russian law. A number of restrictions are imposed on such organizations - for example, they cannot distribute informational materials in Russia.
• Participation in the activities of an “undesirable” organization is punishable under both an administrative article (Article 20.33 of the Code of Administrative Offenses, the maximum punishment is a fine of up to 15 thousand rubles for citizens) and a criminal one (Article 284.1 of the Criminal Code, the maximum punishment is imprisonment for up to six years). At the same time, legislators interpret “participation” quite broadly. Thus, oppositionist Andrei Pivovarov was sentenced to four years in prison because of 30 posts on Facebook and one repost of an Open Russia publication.
