The court upheld the complaint of Navalny's ex-chief of staff about violation of conditions of detention in the punishment cell

The Isakogorsky District Court in Arkhangelsk satisfied the claim of the ex-coordinator of Navalny’s headquarters, Andrei Borovikov, against the administration of the local penal colony-7. This is reported by SOTA.

Borovikov filed a complaint with the court, in which he asked for compensation in the amount of 100 thousand rubles in connection with violation of the conditions of detention in the punishment cell. He claimed that the cell lacked ventilation and sunlight , and there were problems with hot water and sanitation . The court agreed that the colony administration had indeed committed violations, but reduced the amount of compensation to five thousand rubles.

In April 2021, the man was sentenced to 2.5 years in a general regime colony. He was found guilty in the case of distributing pornography (clause “b”, part 3, article 242 of the Criminal Code) because of Rammstein’s video for the song Pussy. Later, the appellate court reduced his term of imprisonment by three months, and after recalculating the term, it was reduced by another day. In August 2022, the court refused to replace the remainder of the sentence with a non-custodial sentence.

In February 2023, the activist was transferred to strict conditions of detention in a colony. The reason for this was the violations that the administration charged the man with: because of them, he was placed in a punishment cell four times. In March, the court granted the colony's claim to establish two years of administrative supervision over Borovikov after his release.

• Andrey Borovikov is the ex-coordinator of the Arkhangelsk headquarters of Alexei Navalny. Before that, he participated in protests against the construction of a landfill at Shies station. Because of this, a criminal case was opened against the man for repeated violations of the established procedure for holding rallies (Article 212.1 of the Criminal Code); in 2019 he was sentenced to 400 hours of compulsory labor.
• According to investigators, the activist published what became the reason for prosecution under Art. 242 UK clip of the group Rammstein in 2014 on VKontakte. To collect evidence in the case, the security forces recruited one of the former volunteers of Navalny’s headquarters, who had previously headed Borovikov. A volunteer came to the meeting with listening devices and recorded the conversation with the activist.
• Amnesty International recognized both criminal prosecutions against Borovikov as politically motivated.
