Alexei Navalny was sent to a punishment cell for the twelfth time

Employees of IK-6 of the Vladimir region sentenced Alexei Navalny to 15 days in a punishment cell because he “incorrectly introduced himself.” This is stated in the politician’s letter, which Navalny’s team posted on his Telegram channel.

“Oh, my luxurious and elite almost two-month stay in a “good” cell (coffee and two books) was heartlessly interrupted, and I was again sent to the end of the corridor in a “bad” cell (boiling water and one book),” the politician shared.

“Obviously, the authorities couldn’t stand the Oscar, deciding that two books in the cell AND an Oscar was too much,” he added. The film Navalny, about the poisoning of a politician, won an Oscar in March.

The oppositionist has been regularly placed in a punishment cell since August 15, 2022 for a period of 3 to 15 days. Shortly before his first placement in the detention center, Navalny announced the creation of the Industrial Zone trade union for prisoners and colony employees. On January 25, Navalny was sent to the punishment cell for the eleventh time: then he was assigned eight days in isolation for “misconception.”

The politician said that being in a punishment cell has a bad effect on his health - he experiences attacks of suffocation and loses weight. After his last placement in the punishment cell, the oppositionist fell ill , but his lawyers were forbidden to give the prisoner medicine. In addition, sick prisoners who were previously in the medical unit are regularly assigned to Navalny in the punishment cell. After the visit of members of the Public Monitoring Committee to the colony, the conditions of Navalny’s detention in the punishment cell became even worse.

On March 27, a cellmate was again assigned to Navalny in the punishment cell from the medical unit, who was not given hygiene products. In addition, the prisoner complained about the lack of hot water in the detention center. Navalny’s team and SOTAvision reported this.

Navalny’s cellmate was charged with smoking, although before this, the politician notes, he smoked for two months in the same place, and no one paid attention. “My jailers are like trained seals. They were taught to clap their flippers and hoot, so they clap and hoot. They can’t think of anything else,” the convict commented on the actions of the colony.

There is also no hot water in the punishment cell; the colony justified this by the fact that the building in which the PKT and the punishment cell are located is supposedly “non-residential.”

"Seriously? I have been living in this building for 8 months. But they tell me, “well, you know, this is a non-residential building.” But why did they put me there? This is the apogee of cynicism. Or it is denied that I live. Or it is denied that I am a person. The administration must make a decision here,” the politician shared.

• In March 2022, Navalny was sentenced to nine years in a maximum security colony on charges of fraud (Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code). In June of the same year, he was transferred to IK-6 in the Vladimir region. Before the sentencing, the politician was also in prison: he was detained in January 2021, when he was returning from Germany to Russia after suffering from poisoning . At the same time, the court replaced the suspended sentence to which Navalny had previously been sentenced in the Yves Rocher case with a real one.
• In May 2022, the oppositionist announced that he was charged in the case of creating an extremist community (Part 1 of Article 282.1 of the Criminal Code) - this happened after the Anti-Corruption Foundation, the Foundation for the Protection of Citizens' Rights and the headquarters of Alexei Navalny were recognized as extremist organizations. In November he was charged with a new criminal case, including four articles.
