Russia supplies Iran with surveillance devices and software in exchange for drones - WSJ

According to The Wall Street Journal, Russia supplies Iran with cyber weapons - devices and programs for conducting surveillance. Deliveries began after the transfer of Iranian drones for the war in Ukraine

Among the deliveries to Iran, according to the publication, citing sources, there are eavesdropping and monitoring devices, lie detectors and software for hacking devices.

Before the war, Moscow cooperated with Iran only in the field of cyber defense, fearing that information about the means of attack could be in the dark web. But then, according to WSJ sources, the Russian authorities decided that the development of relations in the military sphere is beneficial.

Deliveries of equipment and software for surveillance began to occur immediately after Iran began to transfer ammunition and drones to Russia.

The WSJ, citing the University of Toronto's Citizen Lab research center, reports that the Proteus Science and Technology Center is responsible for delivering the software. He began to supply the mobile operator Ariantel with a program for surveillance and censorship. In Russia, Proteus provides technical means for the security forces with the help of which, for example, it is possible to wiretap and control the transmitted data.
