The Parliament of France recognized the Holodomor by the genocide of the Ukrainian people

The National Assembly of France adopted a resolution in which the Holodomor - the mass hunger of 1932–33 - is recognized as the genocide of the Ukrainian people. This was reported on the website of the lower house of the French parliament.

168 deputies voted for the adoption of the resolution, two against. The document emphasizes that the Holodomor was an artificially created hunger, which carried away the lives of four million Ukrainians, mainly peasants.

"This resolution is aimed at recognizing France by the France by this forced hunger of the Ukrainian population with genocide, as well as to condemn the committed actions characterized by extermination and massive violations of human rights and freedoms," the resolution said.

Earlier, similar resolutions adopted the parliaments of Germany, Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria, as well as the Senate of Ireland. The United States adopted a corresponding resolution back in 2018. In December last year, the European Parliament recognized the Holodomor with the genocide of the Ukrainian people and also condemned the crime of Russia newly committed against the Ukrainian people.

• Holodomor - mass hunger in the Ukrainian SSR in 1932-1933 - was caused by the policy of grain procurement and confiscation of all food reserves among Ukrainian peasants conducted by the Soviet regime. As a result of hunger, at least 5 million people died, accurate figures are unknown. Many historians agree that it was a question of hunger in Ukraine purposefully organized by the Soviet authorities. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine recognized the Holodomor with genocide in 2006. The Russian authorities are opposed to such an assessment.
