Washington supports the creation of a special tribunal for judicial persecution of those responsible for aggression against Ukraine. This was stated by the Ambassador for Global Criminal Justice of the US State Department Beth Wang Shaak.
During the speech at the Nuremberg Principles conference, the diplomat noted that the most effective model for holding the accused would be the creation of a “hybrid tribunal” - an international court based on the legal system of Ukraine, but including some international elements.
According to Van Shaak, Ukrainian officials study both this hybrid model and a more independent international institution that will need financing and support for the UN. At the same time, the General Assembly may not have enough votes to create an independent institution.

The Ukrainian authorities are afraid that such a court will not guarantee immunity from representatives of Moscow - including from Russian President Vladimir Putin.
