The Goethe-Institut's accounts were blocked after threats to Maria Zakharova

The accounts of the Goethe German Cultural Center have been blocked. It is reported by The Insider, citing two sources. According to the publication, students who paid for courses, banks return the money.

One of The Insider's interlocutors said that employees were "strictly forbidden to talk" about blocking accounts.

“Everyone is very depressed, the specific reason is unknown, but read the statement of Maria Zakharova about the Russian House in Berlin,” the source said.

In late January, a Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said Russia would retaliate if Germany did not stop restricting the Russian House of Science and Art in Berlin, also known as the Russian House. Zakharova recalled that the accounts of the cultural center were frozen in December last year.

The Goethe-Institut is a non-governmental organization created to promote the German language and expand international cultural cooperation. It was established in Germany. The center has branches in many countries. In Russia, its branches operate in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Novosibirsk.
