Fighters from Russia were allowed to international tournaments

The Executive Committee of the United World of Wrestling (UWW) made athletes from Russia to participate in international competitions. Fighters were allowed to perform in a neutral status. This was announced by the director of the center for sports training of Russian national teams Georgy Bryusov.

According to Bryusov, the UWW executive committee decided to allow Russian athletes to participate in international competitions, subject to the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The same conditions are valid for athletes from Belarus. UWW has decided to ensure additional security measures at competitions to protect athletes.

UWW also proposed the IOC to soften the criteria that allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in international competitions, especially in relation to athletes working under a contract with military organizations.

On March 28, the IOC recommended that Russians and Belarusians be allowed for international competitions:

• They must act in a neutral status, without the use of flags, hymns and symbols of their countries;
• They must act individually, without admission to team competitions;
• Athletes should not maintain an invasion of Ukraine;
• Athletes should not be representatives of the armed forces or law enforcement agencies.

At the same time, Russian flags or any other symbols associated with the country cannot be carried to competitions with the participation of athletes.

• In February 2023, 35 countries, including Great Britain, said they still support the detachment of athletes from Russia and Belarus. The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky also called for not to allow the Russians to the Olympics, saying that he believes that only their presence would be a "manifestation of violence and lawlessness."
