From September, universities will introduce a course on “countering extremism”

Starting from the new academic year, a discipline on countering “extremism, terrorism and corruption” will be introduced into the educational standards of universities. The new subject will appear in both bachelor’s and specialty programs, according to a statement from the Ministry of Education and Science.

It is planned to teach students “an intolerant attitude” towards manifestations of extremism, terrorism and corrupt behavior.”

How exactly the new discipline will be introduced into the educational program, universities, according to the department’s statement, will be able to decide on their own. How many hours will be allocated for its development?

The Ministry of Education and Science also noted that from September 1, admission and training of students will be carried out according to updated programs. They are expected to develop in students “conflict-free communication skills,” “the ability to defend their own opinions,” and the ability to “counteract socially dangerous behavior.”

• At the end of December 2022, the Ministry of Science announced that a course on the basics of military training would appear in Russian universities. The subject will be included in both bachelor's and specialty programs, as well as additional professional programs. The module will be aimed at “forming primary skills and abilities to prepare students for military or other public service.”
