LGBT bloggers Gela Gogishvili and Haoyang Xu were detained in Kazan. The reason for this was the protocol on “LGBT propaganda” (Article 6.21 of the Code of Administrative Offenses), drawn up after denunciations. Haoyang Xu may face expulsion from Russia - he is a Chinese citizen.

Gogishvili told OVD-Info and Mediazone that his partner, along with classmates, was stopped at Burger King to check passport details and registration.

“They checked everyone, it seems normal, but Haoyang did not take his passport with him. And registration too. Therefore, they took him to the department to check his registration and passport details,” Gogishvili said. He took the passport to the police station, and then the officers detained them both. After the detention, the bloggers were informed that a report on “LGBT propaganda” had been drawn up against them a month ago. At first, the lawyer was not allowed to see them, then he managed to get through to the detainees.

These are not the first problems that bloggers face in Russia. In early March, they learned from homophobic public pages that they had been denounced to the police. Bloggers also said they faced threats on social media.

Haoyang Xu is studying in Kazan, and the couple also paid attention to the blog at the educational institution. “The teacher told Haoyang that she allegedly received a call from the police saying that someone in her group was filming 'gay content' so the police wanted to talk. And the teacher began to say something like: “You must comply with the laws and traditions of Russia,” and these “Conversations about the important” began, which now take place often,” Gogishvili said in March.
