The Sovremennik Theater confirmed the dismissal of People's Artist of Russia Liya Akhedzhakova. As RIA Novosti was told in the press service of the theater, Liya Akhedzhakova "resigned of her own free will, in connection with this, labor relations with her cannot be continued."
Earlier, Akhedzhakova herself spoke about leaving Sovremennik, whose management decided to remove the play The Gin Game, in which she played one of the main roles, from the repertoire. According to Akhedzhakova, theater director Yuriy Kravets said the performance was allegedly canceled because of "angry letters" addressed to the actress, who repeatedly spoke out publicly against the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The Gin Game was the only performance in which Akhedzhakova played in Sovremennik.
After being fired from Sovremennik, Akhedzhakova, according to her, expects to engage in touring activities and continue to live in Russia.
