An activist from Chuvashia was sentenced to forced labor for participating in streams and reposting “Artpodgotovka”, banned in Russia.

The Leninsky District Court of Cheboksary sentenced an activist from Chuvashia, Elena Romanova, to two years of forced labor with a deduction of 10 percent of her earnings to the state. Idel.Realii writes about this with reference to Romanova herself.

She was found guilty of participating in the activities of an "extremist" organization. We are talking about the Artpodgotovka movement, which in October 2017 the Russian authorities recognized as “extremist”, and in September 2021 as “terrorist”.

The activist was charged with 11 episodes, allegedly proving her participation in the movement. Including participation in broadcasts with the leader of Artpodgotovka Vyacheslav Maltsev and posts about the movement on social networks.

Among other things, the investigation claimed that in early August 2021, Romanova “publicly invited” former Russian presidential candidate Pavel Grudinin to take part in a live broadcast with Maltsev.

After the court's decision was announced, Romanova announced that she intended to appeal it. “I think the case should have been dropped,” she said.
