Not a single woman has made it to the Forbes list of the richest people in the world, and of the 10 richest women, only one has earned her fortune without the help of wealthy relatives and not in the course of a divorce. This was noticed by Kosa.Media.
In 2023, Forbes counted 2,640 billionaires in the world, of which 337, that is, only 13%, are women. Françoise Bettencourt Meyers, 69, is the richest woman in the world for the third year in a row. Her fortune is estimated at 80.5 billion dollars. Forbes notes that Myers inherited a stake in the L'Oréal Group, founded more than a hundred years ago by her grandfather. In the general list of the richest people on the planet, Myers took 11th place.
The top ten richest women also include the heiress of Walmart co-founder Alice Walton, granddaughter of the founder of Marc Inc. Jacqueline Mars and ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos Mackenzie Scott. The only entrepreneur among the top 10 richest women who has achieved success without the help of wealthy relatives or a spouse is 78-year-old Rafaela Aponte-Diamant. In the 1970s, she founded a shipping company with her husband.
Overall, of the 337 women on the Forbes list, only 96 made their fortunes on their own. Among them are Oprah Winfrey, Rihanna and Kim Kardashian.
