When the building of the RND on Fontanka is restored

The State Administrative and Technical Inspectorate issued a warrant at the beginning of restoration work in the building of the Catherine Institute. This was reported by MR7 with reference to the press service of the Government of St. Petersburg.

The warrant allows to install 36 on the embankment of the Fontanka River, where the newspaper fund of the Russian National Library, construction forests, household town and pedestrian galleries for the time of restoration is located.

External works intend to complete until August 18, 2024, and completely perform restoration - no later than October 31, 2024. The building plan to update the roof and windows and restore the facade.

Context. In September 2022, in the historical building of the Russian National Library on the Fontanka embankment, 36, also known as the Catherine Institute, the repair began . Soon, employees began to complain about the work, fearing for the old newspaper fund, which is stored there in an non -digitized form.

In December, the building began to change the windows, including in the premises of the department where the periodicals from 1728 are stored (they require special storage conditions). The problem was that rare publications did not evacuate for the duration of work, although windows were opened in the premises.

The employees of the RSN complained about theft during the repair of 14 million rubles - and sent an application to the UK, the Prosecutor General and the Accounts Chamber with a request to verify the actions of the leadership. The Committee on State Control, the Use and Protection of Monuments of History and Culture of St. Petersburg did not find violations during the repair.
