Biden resumed the work of the US Presidential Culture Committee, which was dissolved under Trump. Lady Gaga will be its co-chair

Lady Gaga will be the new co-chair of the Arts and Humanities Committee under the President of the United States. The corresponding decree was signed by Joe Biden, according to the White House website. According to the document, director and producer Bruce Cohen has been appointed as the second co-chairman of the committee.

As noted in the press service of the American president, Lady Gaga is one of the most commercially successful singers, and also takes an active part in charitable activities and public campaigns, including in defense of the rights of the LGBT community.

In addition to Gaga and Cohen, the committee included 20 other "distinguished artists, scientists and philanthropists," as they were called in the White House. Among them, in particular, actors George Clooney and Jennifer Garner, as well as musicians John Baptiste and Joe Walsh.

The committee in question was created in 1982 during the presidency of Ronald Reagan. It became an advisory body to the administration that made recommendations not only to the country's president, but also to the leaders of the National Endowment for the Humanities, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

In 2017, during the presidency of Donald Trump, the committee was dissolved. It came after its members resigned in protest of Trump's support for white nationalists, who held a rally in Charlottesville that ended in a clash between right-wing demonstrators and left-wing demonstrators and resulted in casualties.

Following a demarche by members of the committee, the Trump administration released a statement saying that Trump was already planning to dissolve the committee, calling it an "irresponsible way to spend American taxes."

The Joe Biden administration announced the resumption of the committee's work in September 2022.
