Russian schoolchildren began to campaign for contract service in the army

Russian educational institutions began to campaign for schoolchildren to serve in the army on a contract basis. This is reported by several regional media at once, "Important Stories" drew attention.

The mother of one of the Perm schoolchildren shared with Perm 36.6 that representatives of the military enlistment office recently came to her son's school and told the students about the "charms of contract service."

“My fool still pulled a booklet from school. He says that he is interested, he will not study. Why didn't they tell how many guys died? Immediately they began to promise mountains of gold. I don't know what to do with it. I will try to do some explanatory work. And let the rest of the parents take note that they can also come to their school, ”the woman said.

Appeals to serve in the army under a contract appeared in March in the telegram channels of schoolchildren from Pyatigorsk. The city administration told Rise that they had carried out this advertising campaign on behalf of the education department and the governor. At the same time, it was a recommendation, not a direct instruction, the administration noted. Officials indicated that now the posters about the organization of selection for military service have been removed, and that they were not campaigning.

A lawyer from the Appeal to Conscience coalition, on condition of anonymity, told Important Stories that human rights activists had not previously come across advertisements for contract service in schools.

On April 11, the State Duma adopted in the final reading amendments to the law on military service, which, among other things, assume that it is now possible to conclude a contract immediately after the start of military service. Previously, this could only be done after receiving a higher or secondary vocational education, or after three months of conscript service.

On the whole, campaigning for contract service in Russia intensified at the end of March. Telegram channel Baza reported that officials were specifically warned about the need to publish such advertising. The publication "7x7" reported that the mayor's office of Novosibirsk asked school administrations to place advertisements for contract service on their websites.
