Frame from the movie "I can't hear evil"
Kyong-Mi ( Chin Gi-Ju ) lives with his mother ( Kil He-Eun ) in a dysfunctional unlit area already abandoned by neighbors-they will be reconstructed. She works in a call center. At the same time, Ken-Mi-hard-auditing and serves in the language of gestures of people with hearing impairment.
It was she who in the late evening will see in the darkness of the backyard the bleeding girl (Kim Hi-Uun). Trying to help her, she will turn out to be another goal for a serial psychopathic maniac to Shika (V Ha-June).
Then the hunt begins, in which the crazy and at the same time quite a cold-blooded killer is trying to kill: a wounded girl, Kyung-Mi herself and her mother, and also a policeman-the brother of a wounded girl.
For all the uncomplicity of history, this is a young adrenaline movie, in which Saspens is created by all the details and circumstances of the scene.
The original name of the movie Midnight is “midnight”, we plunge on one endless night, into a deserted alarming space in which a psychopath killer haunts its victims. But the second part of the picture unfolds in general in the very center of the city, among the crowd. And here the killer is pursuing his victim, which is trying to take him away from the wounded girl.
And the whole many -faced relaxed crowd does not save women, because it does not “hear” them.
Here the edge between the horror and the social thriller about the problems of communication of people with proprietisms passes. The victims cannot explain to people alarmed by their inappropriate behavior what is happening.
But the killer will easily fall over with compassionate passers -by tanks about a mentally ill sister. And now a couple of strong servicemen pull out the keona-mi from them from the dark corner, where she will clog in order to give the “brother” to be torn to pieces. Oh, thank you, you are so human!
So who is deaf here?
In addition, for the hearing hearing herself, the street itself is not a place of life, but survival. Suddenly, a motorcyclist that you do not hear from behind, you are already warned about a new danger, shouting with all your might ... But, alas.

But the murderer is perfectly aware of the deafness of their victims. Vi Ha-June (“Games in Kalmara”) plays not a traditional maniac sparkling with eyes playing muscles. His hero is an elegant, terrible, at the same time charming smiling villain, playing cat-mouse with his victims. In the police station, on the city square - he is just a sweet, caring brother or random witness of the crime.
He is inventive and relentless. And this negative charm in conjunction with ruthlessness shakes the soul, twisting the plot into the slasher, recalling the low -budget horror of the “Master of Horror” by John Carpenter.
Especially in the scene of the chase on the autobahn among the racing cars, which the victim ... does not hear.

But the center of the film, its main attraction is Kyon-Mi. She is charming, funny frozen her nose, funny, in her weakness and strength. The Chin Gi-Ju creates the image of a modern girl who has learned to cope-including with the help of gadgets-with claustrophobia an inaudible person in the city. He taught to answer and even sarcastically mock those who treat her with arrogance and superiority of “healthy people”. And at the same time vulnerable due to disability-social stigma.
Her delicate, touching relationships with her mother, for whom and “the whole world is not enough,” as if partially balanced the lost harmony of the dark universe.
The film is not perfect at all, there are plot groats in it, but they are completely compensated by the drive and directorial resourcefulness, an atmosphere created by the light of a lantern, neon visual effects and a sound design, existing in the contrast of idle noise, the engrability of cars, the grinding of the city - and silence.

Thanks to such a voluminous, lively and thoughtful directing, you yourself find yourself in the place of a person, vulnerable because of your health.
The film was released. And on April 19, a discussion will take place in the Pioneer about how the place of a woman (both heroines and filmmakers) in horror and thrillers has historically changed. Speakers are Naya Guseva and Nastasya Gorbachevskaya , the moderator is Veronika Skurikhina .
