The former head of the Union of Ukrainians of Siberia was fined for tweets calling for “throwing off the shackles of shameful colonial dependence”

The Novosibirsk Regional Court approved a fine of 70 thousand rubles imposed on the former head of the Union of Ukrainians of Siberia, Sergei Ivashchenko, due to publications on Twitter. This was reported by the publication “Sibir.Realii” with reference to an acquaintance of Ivashchenko.

In December 2022, the activist was found guilty of public calls for actions that violate the territorial integrity of Russia (Article 20.3.2 of the Administrative Code). The reason for the protocol was publications on Twitter.

In particular, in one of the posts Ivashchenko wrote “Siberia must throw off the shackles of shameful (shameful) colonial dependence on Muscovy!”, and in another - “Siberia must be independent!!! Glory to Siberia!!” Employees of the local FSB department drew attention to the activist’s publications. “Sibir.Realii” writes that the account of the ex-head of the “Union of Ukrainians of Siberia” has now been deleted.

In March 2022, Ivashchenko was fined one thousand rubles for a single picket with the flag of Ukraine on February 25 in the center of Novosibirsk. He was found guilty of failure to comply with the rules of behavior in emergency situations (Article 20.6.1 of the Administrative Code) due to coronavirus restrictions.

Back in 2014, in a conversation with the NGS, Ivashchenko said that he was against the annexation of Crimea and that he “would not like the Slavic peoples to fight.” “You see, if two brothers are at each other’s throats, it will be a very serious war. There will be no winners. Well, yes, you will conquer the whole world, but if your hands are stained with brotherly blood, you will lose both your soul and humanity,” he added.
