Vodka producer Absolut stopped supplies to Russia a week after they resumed - amid sharp criticism of the company in Sweden

The Swedish company Absolut, which produces the vodka of the same name, announced the cessation of supplies to Russia a week after their resumption. This is stated in a statement by the company's CEO Stephanie Durru.

According to her, Absolut does not consider it possible "to subject employees and partners to massive criticism in all forms." "The reaction of recent days clearly reflects the role that Absolut plays for its wider community in Sweden," Dürru said in a statement. At the same time, she did not rule out that the company's products may appear in Russia as part of parallel imports. According to her, the management of Absolut cannot influence this.

Absolut is owned by the French company Pernod Ricard. After the start of the war in Ukraine, the concern stopped exporting its products to Russia. On April 11, 2023, the company's management announced the resumption of supplies "to the extent that can protect local employees and ensure economic sustainability for local organizations." After that, the Swedish MEP Karin Karlsbro called on the leadership of Absolut to immediately stop exporting to Russia and called it "a mockery of everyone who is fighting for the survival of Ukraine." Other Swedish politicians have taken to social media to call for a boycott of the company.
