The Bolshoi Theater has removed the ballet "Nureyev" by director Kirill Serebrennikov from its repertoire. This was announced by the theater's general director Vladimir Urin, TASS reports. He stated that such a decision was made due to the new law on "LGBT propaganda."

“The play ‘Nureyev’ has been removed from the repertoire in connection with the signed law, <…> where issues related to the promotion of non-traditional values are discussed in an absolutely unambiguous manner,” the agency quotes him as saying.

In his opinion, this performance falls under the law. "Therefore, it is absolutely natural that as soon as the law was signed, the theater decided to remove this performance from the theater's repertoire," Urin concluded.

In May 2022, the Bolshoi Theater cancelled performances of the ballet Nureyev. The theater's website also removed the mention that the production was directed by Kirill Serebrennikov. The Russian Ministry of Culturesaid that it is "absolutely logical" for the names of figures who "renounced Russia" in today's "difficult times" to disappear from the posters of cultural institutions.
TASS, citing a source, wrote that the premiere of Nureyev at the Bolshoi Theater in 2017 was postponed on the direct order of Vladimir Medinsky, who then held the post of Minister of Culture. According to the agency's source, Medinsky found "gay propaganda" in the performance. The minister himself denied this.
