Brazilian President Luis Inasiu Lula da Silva directly condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine after sharp criticism from the United States - she followed how the Brazilian leader accused the United States of promoting the war. Washington was accused of Lulu and Silva of adhering to the theses of Chinese and Russian propaganda.
Brazil since the beginning of the war of Russia with Ukraine has held a neutral position. Lula da Silva called the Russian invasion of a “mistake”, but publicly refrained from a direct condemnation of Moscow’s actions. Brazil did not join anti -Russian sanctions, and also repeatedly refused to sell ammunition to Ukraine, despite the direct requests of European countries. However, notes The Guardian, the West increasingly began to consider such neutrality as de facto support for Russia's actions.
On April 16, Lula da Silva, being in the United Arab Emirates, where he came from China, said that he invited the leaders of these states to create a group of several “no relation to the war” of countries that could perform an intermediary mission between Russia and Ukraine.
The President of Brazil expressed the conviction that Moscow and Kyiv themselves are not taking initiatives to stop the war, and the USA and the EU are only delaying the conflict, as they supply weapons to Ukraine. “The United States must stop encouraging the war and start talking about the world. The European Union should begin to talk about the world, ”and Silva said.
The next day, returning to Brazil, Lula da Silva held bilateral negotiations with the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. The Russian minister welcomed the calls of the President of Brazil to resolve through negotiations, and also transferred an invitation from Vladimir Putin to come to Russia.
The statements of Lula da Silva caused sharp criticism in the United States. The White House accused the Brazilian president of "repeating Russian and Chinese propaganda, not paying attention to the facts." Reuters, citing a source in Washington, said that on the unofficial channels of Brazil, they “clearly made it clear” that they were dissatisfied with the comments about the role of the United States in the war.
The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine, in turn, noted that they were interested in the efforts of Lula and Silva to search for a solution to stop the conflict, but they added that the Brazilian president "puts a victim and aggressor for one bowl of weights." In Kyiv, Lule da Silva was invited to visit Ukraine in order to "get acquainted with the true essence of Russian aggression."
On April 18, Lula da Silva directly condemned the violation of the territorial integrity of Ukraine by Russia. At the same time, he stated that it remains a committed idea to create a group of neutral countries in order to help to achieve peace.
Lula da Silva is not the first to make proposals to resolve the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. So, he nominated the idea of creating a group of intermediaries in February . In early April, Lula da Silva invited Ukraine to give in to Russia Crimea, saying that Vladimir Zelensky "also cannot want everything."
According to The Guardian, his speeches about the Russian war with Ukraine Lula da Silva are trying to return Brazil to world policy as an influential player - after several years of isolation policy pursued by his predecessor Zhir Bolsonaru.
