Golikova recalled that the name of the movement was chosen by the congress delegates. But Putin continued to insist: “Okay, okay, I know about it, but when we use it now, we just need to think and consult with the guys, okay?” Golikova agreed to this proposal.

Two Meduza sources close to the political bloc of the presidential administration say that the name “pioneers” was discussed back in the spring of 2022, but then the Kremlin decided “not to associate the new movement with the past, with the Soviet.” “But the president likes this past, and he hasn’t been able to come up with another memorable name,” said one of Meduza’s interlocutors.
