Mentions of Kyiv in the section on Kievan Rus were removed from the Russian textbook for fourth grade.

In the new edition of the textbook "The World Around" for the fourth grade, published by the publishing house "Prosveshcheniye", several mentions of Kyiv were removed from the chapters on the history of Kievan Rus. This was reported by Mediazona, which reviewed several pages of the new version of the textbook and compared them with the 2021 version.

The old edition said that the chronicle "The Tale of Bygone Years" was written by the monk of the Kiev-Pechersk Monastery Nestor. In the new version, Nestor became just a monk, without specifying the place of service.

Mediazona also noted that the 2021 version of the textbook said that Prince Vladimir baptized all the people in Kyiv, while the new version says “in the capital.” The phrase “After the death of Oleg, Prince Igor began to rule in Kyiv” also changed. Now it sounds like this: “After the death of Oleg, Prince Igor began to rule Russia.”

The textbook on the history of Russia for the sixth grade (2016 version) says: “882, when Oleg united Novgorod and Kyiv, many historians call the conditional date of the formation of the Old Russian state.” In the 2023 edition, it is written differently: “Gradually, the dynasty of princes, who built their clan to Rurik, acquired the greatest importance. With his vocation in 862 to Novgorod, the formation of the state of Rus is associated.

"Mediazona" notes that the new edition of the textbook "The World Around" has been sent to print and has not yet gone on sale. Journalists also became aware of the preparation of methodological materials, which clarify the role of Kyiv in the history of Russia. According to a source in the Prosveshchenie publishing house, the manuals will go to schools by the end of spring.
