Kamchatka cannot shake off ashes

The authorities admitted that they could not cope with the consequences of the eruption of the volcano, and introduced the emergency mode

In Kamchatka, the authorities have been struggling for almost two weeks without much success with the consequences of the eruption of the Schiluch volcano. It happened on the night of April 11. The volcanic ash then fell asleep several villages of the Ust-Kamchatka district. It was difficult to breathe on the streets, people tried not to leave their houses and apartments.

The forces and funds of the Ministry of Emergencies and utilities were thrown to fight natural disaster. Firefighters washed off ashen dust from the buildings with water from the hose, the communal workers were taken out on trucks outside the settlements of the slurry from the ashes and snow. These events turned out to be very expensive, but the effect of them, as it turned out, was small. Officials even complained that trucks from the slurry "caused damage to the road network."

“The measures taken under the liquidation did not give the proper result, but exceeded the predicted amount of financial costs,” Oleg Bondarenko, head of the district, wrote on Friday in his telegram channel.

And today he said that the Klyuchi, May and Kozyrevsk villages will introduce an emergency mode. At the same time, the population was recommended to "carry out the cleaning of ash in their courtyards on their own."

In addition, as Bondarenko noted, "the question of the speedy manufacture of containers for installation at the entrance to the buildings, with which it will be possible to wash off ash from shoes, is being worked out." However, all this could be done without the emergency mode, and it was probably announced in order to be able to request and receive additional budget money from various reserve funds to combat the elements.

Meanwhile, the President of the Russian Federation was reported about the Kamchatka ash. “The main discomfort for residents is simply associated with a large volume of ash loss and, so to speak, the mud, which covered the villages. There are no threats to life and health, ”the governor of the region Vladimir Solodov told Putin on video communication.

Heating objects, according to him, function uninterruptedly, and "all schools and all hospitals are brought into a clean state."

The situation in the injured villages today is really more or less normal. But it was stabilized not so much at the expense of the authorities, but rather with the help of natural phenomena. The fallen snow sprinkled and wet the ashes. There is little in the air now. Accordingly, it is easier for people to be easier.

The problem, however, is that the negative consequences of the ash will most likely have an obsolete effect.

Closer to the summer, when the sun melts the snow and dries the ashes lying on the ground and trees, the wind will spread it along with dust. People will have to inhale this mixture harmful to the body.

According to an adverse scenario, in particular, the situation in the keys, where the ash layer reached 20 centimeters, may develop. About four thousand people live in this village, but it is in relative proximity to several volcanoes, among which not only Shuvelud, but also Klyuchevskaya hill, is the largest existing volcano of Eurasia.

By the way, another attraction of the keys is that the military unit serving the Kura training ground is located here. It is on him that during the exercises they shoot the “Sarmatians”, “maces” and other ballistic missiles that are in service with Russian VKS.
