Several dozen people came to a protest in Paris demanding sanctions against Svetlana Maniovich, whom the team of politician Alexei Navalny calls the wife of Russian Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov. Photos and videos from the action were published by journalist Denis Kataev.
The picket took place on the Rue de Babilon in front of the house where, according to Navalny's associates, Svetlana Maniovich rents an apartment. The participants were holding posters with slogans in French, English and Russian. They also chanted "Sanctions!".
The chairman of the board of directors of the Anti-Corruption Foundation, Maria Pevchikh, addressed the protesters. Previously, she called on supporters in Paris to picket the Maniovich family to have sanctions imposed, their assets frozen, and they themselves were banned from entering the European Union.
Navalny's team in December 2022 released an investigation dedicated to Svetlana Maniovich. It argued that Maniovich did not fall under the EU sanctions imposed on Russian Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov, since they divorced five months after the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The authors of the investigation emphasized that they did not find evidence that the couple really broke up.
