A young couple suspected of sabotage on the railways in Tomsk and Anzhero-Sudzhensk was detained in the Kemerovo region

According to security officials, a 19-year-old resident of the Kemerovo region and a 22-year-old resident of the Trans-Baikal Territory tried to set fire to relay cabinets within the city of Anzhero-Sudzhensk on the night of Sunday, April 23. Their actions, according to the transport police, “were suppressed by law enforcement officers.” When detained, the couple was found with containers with flammable liquid and a nail puller.

Security forces believe that the suspects “received an offer to make money” in an unnamed messenger. They were promised to pay 35 thousand rubles for arson. According to police, the couple may also be involved in two other arson attacks - in March in Anzhero-Sudzhensk and in April in Tomsk.

In the video footage from the interrogation, young people with blurred faces talk confusingly about the circumstances of their detention. At the same time, the girl pronounces the word “relay” as if she were reading it syllable by syllable.

According to Kuzbass Today, the couple is now in a temporary detention center. A case was opened against them for intentional damage to property (Part 2 of Article 167 of the Criminal Code). SHOT, without citing a source, reports that the suspects admitted their guilt and told security forces that they were “just trying to make money.”
