The accused in a series of poisonings in the center of Moscow was sentenced to 15 years in prison

The Basmanny District Court of Moscow sentenced Murat Sabanov, accused of a series of poisonings in the city center, to 15 years in prison in a strict regime colony. This was reported by the press service of the Moscow courts.

In May 2021, the same court sentenced the man to 16 years in prison, but the Moscow City Court overturned the sentence and sent the case back for a new trial.

Sabanov was charged with five episodes of robbery with causing grievous bodily harm (point "c" of part 4 of article 162 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), 25 episodes of robbery with the use of violence or the threat of its use (part 1 of article 162) and six episodes of theft (point "d" of part 3 article 158). On charges of fraud with the use of cards (part 1 of article 159.3), he was released from punishment due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.

A series of poisonings in the center of Moscow became known in 2019.

According to investigators, Sabanov offered his victims, whom he met on the street, to drink a drink he prepared with sedative drugs dissolved in it. This happened in the squares near Chistye Prudy, in the Gorka park, in the Pit on Khokhlovskaya Square, or in the Zinziver wine glass. The victims lost consciousness, after which they were robbed. In total, 30 people were injured by Sabanov's actions, the prosecutor's office reported.

During the first consideration of the case, Sabanov partially admitted his guilt. He said that he robbed citizens "in order to survive."
