The US Department of Defense has announced a new package of military assistance for Ukraine, which will include weapons worth $300 million, reports . the press service of the department

Among other things, the new aid package will include ammunition for the HIMARS MLRS, artillery and mortars, as well as 155-mm howitzers, Hydra-70 aircraft missiles and anti-tank weapons, the press release says.

At the same time, the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell , said that the European Union had agreed on the details of a scheme for the joint purchase of ammunition for Ukraine for a billion euros.

He did not disclose the details of the agreement, but it is known that the joint purchase of ammunition is part of a broader EU plan to send a million artillery shells to Ukraine within 12 months.

In addition, on May 3, the European Commission approved the allocation of 500 million euros, which are planned to be used to increase the production capacity of the EU defense industry.

• The European Union's plan to supply Ukraine with a million artillery rounds was agreed on March 20, but discussions on the scheme for the purchase of shells dragged on for several weeks, as the countries could not agree on the terms of the contracts.
