Aleksey Moskalev, sentenced to two years in prison for “discrediting” the army, found himself in the SIZO of Smolensk thanks to volunteers. His lawyer Vladimir Biliyenko told Kholod about this.
Moskalev escaped from house arrest on the eve of the verdict in his case on March 28. On March 30, he was detained by Belarusian security forces in a private house near Minsk. After that, the relatives and the defense could not find out where he was for a whole month.
“After his detention, the volunteers sent out letters addressed to Aleksey to all pre-trial detention centers in the European part of Russia and looked to see if the letter had been delivered to the addressee. In the end, it turned out to be a letter sent to the pre-trial detention center of Smolensk, ”he said.
Bilienko confirmed that Moskalev was beaten by security forces during his detention in Belarus, but now nothing threatens his health. “During the storming of the apartment, they put him on the floor, and then, already immobilized, they beat him with their hands and feet on his chest and back, beat off a muscle on his leg. But now everything is fine,” Bilienko said.
According to him, in the first days of his stay in the pre-trial detention center, Moskalev also had a conflict with an "unbalanced" cellmate. “There was a man with him in quarantine, who was later sent to a psychiatric hospital. He rushed at Alexei, tried to choke him, hit his head several times against the wall. Later, the administration resolved the issue and resettled the violent cellmate,” Bilienko said.
Yesterday he managed to meet with Moskalev and give him warm clothes. “He feels good, and after he found out that his daughter is no longer in the orphanage, his mood can even be called elated,” Bilienko said. Moskalev also received a letter from his daughter, who is now with her mother, and wrote back to her.
Answering a question from Kholod, Biliyenko also explained that Moskalev was not threatened with a new criminal case for escaping on the eve of the verdict. “The existing criminal article assumes responsibility for escaping from custody, and Aleksey escaped from house arrest even before the verdict was announced,” he said. As for the verdict handed down to Moskalev, according to Bilienko, it has been appealed, and the date for the consideration of the appeal has not yet been set.
In early March, after Alexei Moskalev's daughter Masha drew an anti-war drawing at an art lesson at school, a criminal case was opened against him for "discrediting" the army. Then Moskalev was placed under house arrest, and his daughter was sent to an orphanage.
Later, guardianship filed a lawsuit to deprive Moskalev of parental rights. However, then he was recalled, and the girl was taken from the shelter by her own mother, who had not participated in her daughter's life for seven years before.
