Bali authorities want to limit the flow of tourists using quotas

The governor of the Indonesian resort of Bali has announced plans to introduce quotas for foreign tourists as part of the island's centenary development program. With the help of quotas, the authorities expect to reduce the flow of tourists. In order to come to Bali, foreigners will need to register in advance and wait in line to enter. Moreover, according to the governor, tourists who want to come next year will have to register already "right now."

The Bali authorities decided to fight mass tourism due to numerous violations by foreign guests, the governor explained. “Now a new phenomenon has arisen when a number of tourists are hooligans, outrageous, most of them are from Russia,” he says. According to the governor, 101 tourists have been deported from Indonesia since the beginning of the year, 27 of them are Russians. In total, there are about 50,000 Russian citizens in Bali now, he added.

In March, the Bali authorities appealed to the central migration agency of Indonesia with a demand to ban the issuance of visas to Russians and Ukrainians on arrival. The reason was cases of illegal work on the island of tourists from these countries. At least four Russians were deported in the first half of March for visa violations. And the Bali authorities have repeatedly warned that it is forbidden for those who have issued a tourist visa to work on the island.
