Singer Alexander Rosenbaum spoke out in support of Zhenya Berkovich and Svetlana Petriychuk, who were arrested on charges of “justifying terrorism” because of the play “Finist Yasny Sokol”.
On May 9, during a festive concert in honor of Victory Day at the Oktyabrsky Concert Hall in St. Petersburg, he addressed the audience with a short speech.
At the beginning, Rosenbaum mentioned Vera Glagoleva's film One War, which tells about the fate of Soviet women who gave birth to children from German soldiers during the occupation. “I could never and none of you could have imagined that Vera would be pulled over for justifying fascism,” he said.
“I did not watch the performance Finist the Clear Falcon, but Zhenya Berkovich and Svetlana Petriychuk wrote about deceived women. I'm not talking about politics now, by no means. We understand that someone wanted to, but we have a smart state, we hope. Is it possible to have two girls in shackles? They overdid it a lot. It's time to turn on the back, ”said Rosenbaum.
On May 4, the security forces detained Zhenya Berkovich, director of the play Finist the Clear Sokol, and Svetlana Petriychuk, author of the play of the same name. The houses of them and their relatives were searched. On the same day, both were taken for interrogation to the UK, after which they were detained as suspects. The next day, Berkovich and Petriychuk were charged with “justifying terrorism,” and the Zamoskvoretsky court sent both of them to a pre-trial detention center for two months.
The play “Finist Yasny Sokol” tells about the fate of real Russian girls who married radical Islamists and went to live with them in Syria. The premiere of the production took place in 2020, and in 2022 the performance received the Golden Mask award in two categories.
