Vladimir Putin decided to give the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) the “Holy Trinity” icon painted by Andrei Rublev; previously, it received 61 “significant changes” after being transferred to the Trinity-Sergius Lavra from the Tretyakov Gallery. this with reference to the Russian Orthodox Church. reports RIA Novosti

Over the next year, the icon will be in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, and then it will be exhibited in the Trinity Cathedral of the Holy Trinity Sergius Lavra.

Last summer, the Tretyakov Gallery temporarily transferred the icon to the Russian Orthodox Church, and the 15th-century monument was brought to the Trinity Cathedral of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra in Sergiev Posad. Gallery employees opposed the transfer of the exhibit, since its removal from museum conditions could have irreversible consequences for the safety of Rublev’s work.

A few days later the icon was returned to the Tretyakov Gallery. Restorers then reported that there were no “visible signs of deterioration.” However, in September the restoration council identified 61 “significant changes” since its removal from the museum. As a result, they decided to leave “Trinity” in the gallery’s depository, excluding it from the exhibition “for an indefinite period.”
