CNN: Patriot anti-aircraft system received minimal damage as a result of Russian missile attack on Kyiv

The American Patriot air defense system received minimal damage as a result of a Russian missile attack on Kyiv. It is reported by CNN with reference to three American officials.

One of the interlocutors claimed "minor" damage. On May 16, the US sent inspectors to test the system.

According to sources, the Patriot system itself continues to function, the radar, one of its most important elements, remained intact. CNN's interlocutors believe that the Patriot will not need to be taken for repairs.

CNN clarifies that it remains unclear how much of the Patriot was damaged and whether it was the result of a missile hit or falling debris.

• The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that on the night of May 16, as a result of a strike on Kiev, "a high-precision hypersonic missile system" Dagger "hit a US-made Patriot anti-aircraft missile system." The command of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated that as a result of the air defense, all Russian drones and missiles launched in Ukraine, including six "Daggers", were shot down. A CNN source in the US administration suggested that the Patriot was most likely damaged but not destroyed.
