“Crisis, decline, degradation”: Russian universities conducted a survey on attitudes towards what is happening in the country

More than 500 Russian universities conducted a survey on attitudes towards the country, the war and Vladimir Putin. It turned out that more than a third of the respondents want to leave Russia, and from the words most suitable for describing the situation in Russia, the majority chose "crisis", "decline" and "degradation". "Important stories" got acquainted with the first results of the study.

The survey was conducted on the platform "Not indifferent person". Among its customers are the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Education and the Presidential Administration, and among the organizers - VCIOM, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Education and Tomsk State University. The first stage of the survey took place from 10 to 28 April, and in general, the study is scheduled to be completed in November. Of the 500 universities whose students took part in the survey, 30 are located in the occupied Ukrainian territories - in the self-proclaimed LPR and DPR, as well as in Mariupol, Melitopol and Kherson.

Students and teachers were asked whether they support the "special operation", whether there is a threat of an attack on Russia, whether students want to leave the country and what emotions they experience when thinking about it. Most often, respondents spoke about anxiety and fear (36%), as well as hope (25%). Outrage and disappointment were mentioned a little less frequently (about 20%). Respect, pride and trust were mentioned by 12-14% of respondents. More than a third of the respondents noted that they would like to leave Russia. Most of these students and teachers were at the Higher School of Economics.

The level of confidence in Vladimir Putin among the respondents was 64%. At the same time, HSE students were not asked this question by decision of the HSE administration. When asked what the Russian authorities should be concerned about in the first place, the majority of respondents answered that it was about “development of the economy, ensuring the well-being of citizens and raising the standard of living.” Only 13% of the respondents mentioned the “military power of the state and influence on international processes”.

Among other things, students and teachers were asked to choose the most important concepts for them. More than half chose "love, relationships and family", as well as "self-realization and diversification." 47% of respondents chose material well-being. 19% indicated "respect for the country, its history and traditional values", 10% - "participation in the life of the country and support for their state."

The study participants were also asked to choose one or more words suitable to describe the current situation in Russia. Most of the respondents (44%) chose the word "crisis", 32% of respondents - the word "decline", 25% - "degradation". 16% of respondents voted for the word "revival", 8% - for "stability".

Several professors at Russian universities told Important Stories that the survey was voluntary. At the same time, one of the teachers of the Perm Pedagogical University told 59.ru that the employees of the institution were forced to answer questions “correctly” and within strictly allotted working hours. Also, when registering on the platform, you had to enter your phone number or go through a study through the Vkontakte social network. To the objections of some university staff, the management said that they all "live in this country", so everyone should answer the surveys.

The press service of the Perm Pedagogical University told the publication that there were no "correct" answers to the questions, and that participation was voluntary.
