In Kaliningrad began the demolition of the House of Soviets

In Kaliningrad, the demolition of the legendary House of Soviets began. Residents of the city opposed the destruction of "long -term construction". This was announced by the head of the development corporation of the Kaliningrad region Andrei Tolmachev.

According to him, the builders began to disassemble the staircase outside the building, screed and communication. Dismantling work should be completed by the end of June next year, 127.7 million rubles will be spent on them. What will be built on the site of the House of Soviets is still unknown.

Tolmachev also stated that now the architectural monument is a construction site, and called on "those who want to get illegally or legally to the object to abandon their intentions."

At the end of April, the inhabitants of Kaliningrad created a petition demanding to bear the question of the fate of the House of Soviets for public hearings. The authors of the petition said that nothing brighter in the city was built in all the post -war years. Residents of the city called the possible demolition of the building "repetition of the mistakes of the past." The petition was signed by more than 700 people.

The building of the House of Soviets began to be built in 1970 on the site of the German Royal Castle, blown up in 1967 by decision of the Soviet government. The building was supposed to be 28-story, but due to the inappropriate soil, the height was reduced to 21 floors. By the end of the 1980s, the House of Soviets was almost ready, but the construction was never completed due to financing problems.

In 2019, the building turned into the ownership of the Kaliningrad region. Since then, his fate has been in question. At first, the authorities promised to reconstruct the building, but in 2020 they announced the decision to demolish it.

They wanted to start work in February-March 2021. However, the authorities delayed the legal work and decided to first show the public a new project. Kaliningraders declared fears about the destruction of the appearance of the city and the possible negative impact of demolition on the ecology.

In 2021, Studio 44, Nikita Yavein, developed a project to build land on the site of the House of Soviets. Members of the Kaliningrad branch of the Union of Architects of Russia opposed him. After that, the architects of the studio wrote an open letter to Governor Anton Alikhanov.
