The “counter-terrorist operation” continues in the Belgorod region. Authorities ask residents of border villages not to return to their homes

The governor of the Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, said that a "counter-terrorist operation" was continuing in the region. According to him, the Ministry of Defense, together with law enforcement agencies, are "cleansing the territory."

“There is information that in those settlements that the enemy has entered, there are two wounded civilians. So far, the security forces have not been able to reach them. Task number one this morning. I hope that we will be able to evacuate them as quickly as possible and deliver them to a medical facility,” Gladkov said.

He said that there were no casualties among the civilian population. At the same time, according to him, a woman born in 1941 died during the evacuation. “The reasons are now established. I was on the bus with my son and daughter-in-law,” he explained.

Gladkov asked the residents of the Grayvoronsky district, who left their homes, not to return yet.

He also wrote that on the night of May 23, the Belgorod region was shelled several times. So, in the village of Borisovka, according to him, explosive devices were dropped twice “on one of the administrative buildings” from drones. A private house was also damaged there. In the city of Graivoron, according to Gladkov, drones attacked private houses, causing a fire. No casualties have been reported.

Later, the telegram channel Mash reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine allegedly attacked the FSB Directorate for the Belgorod Region and, possibly, the building of the Internal Affairs Directorate located nearby.

The following message appeared on the telegram channel of the Freedom of Russia legion, whose fighters took part in the raid on the territory of the Belgorod region, on the morning of May 23: “Good morning to everyone, except for Putin's accomplices! We have met the dawn in the liberated territory and are moving on.”

The day before, Russian telegram channels reported that a group of Ukrainian military personnel, consisting of about 80 people, two tanks, three infantry fighting vehicles and several armored vehicles, entered the territory of the Belgorod region. Later it became known that they were fighters of the Freedom of Russia Legion and the Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK). These units are made up of people from Russia fighting on the side of Ukraine. Kiev confirmed this information, emphasizing that only Russian citizens are participating in the operation.

The day before, a video appeared on the RDK telegram channel, allegedly from the premises of the Grayvoron border checkpoint. The footage shows the body of a murdered, presumably Russian border guard. In turn, Russian telegram channels on Monday evening reported 39 Ukrainian saboteurs killed and five taken prisoner. However, no confirmation of this information has appeared.
