Three city defenders were detained in St. Petersburg trying to stop the demolition of a historic building

In St. Petersburg, the police detained three city defenders who were trying to stop the demolition of the Basevich house, a historic building from the beginning of the 20th century. This was reported to OVD-Info by lawyer Sergei Podolsky.

The activists tried to block the operation of the excavator. One of them was severely beaten during the arrest, an ambulance came to him.

So far, it is not known what exactly the detainees are charged with.

16:03 Kirill Kaverin, Igor Kuznetsov, Pavel Shepetkov were detained. They were taken to police station No. 18. A lawyer from OVD-Info, Sergei Podolsky, came to help the activists.

18:29 All three city defenders were charged with petty hooliganism (Part 1, Article 20.1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses). The police claim that the young people cursed the general director of the security company, interfered with the construction work and broke the glass on the excavator. The detainees are left in the department for the night.

• On January 27, the court allowed the demolition of the Basevich house, a building built in 1912 that was not recognized as an object of cultural heritage. Work began on May 18. City guards continue to fight to save the building, including occupying its premises to interfere with the technique.
