The prosecutor requested 8 years in a general regime colony for human rights activist from Syktyvkar Andrei Ivashev. This was reported by the telegram channel “Public Meeting of the Komi Republic”.

The social activist is accused of calling for terrorism on the Internet (Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code). According to investigators, in 2020 he left three comments calling for the murder of the head of the region, Vladimir Uiba, in groups on VKontakte. Initially, Ivashev was accused under the article on calls for extremism on the Internet (Part 2 of Article 280 of the Criminal Code), but later the court reclassified the article as calls for terrorism.

This is not the only criminal case in which Ivashev is involved. In 2021, the man was searched under articles on inciting hatred and enmity (Article 282 of the Criminal Code) and contempt of court (Article 297 of the Criminal Code). At the same time, why the public activist is accused of inciting hatred and enmity is unknown. A criminal case of contempt of court was opened due to the fact that Ivashev, according to investigators, spoke rudely with the judge at a meeting where he represented the interests of a woman with a disability.

The criminal case against Ivashev is being considered by a panel of three federal judges of the 2nd Western District Military Court.

• In December 2022, the human rights activist was transferred from the pre-trial detention center to house arrest. Earlier, Ivashev also spoke about the difficult conditions of detention in the pre-trial detention center. According to the social activist, he was placed in a cold basement with a broken window opening. Later he was transferred to a special unit, where, as the man noted, he was “in inhumane, unsanitary conditions.” In addition, Ivashev was not allowed to use the prison library.
