Срочника Афанасия Подаева из Тюменской области призвали в армию в июне — он даже не успел забрать диплом об окончании колледжа. Юноша учился на повара и после службы хотел открыть свое кафе. Военком пообещал его родителям, что срочники будут служить «за тысячу километров» от горячих точек. Но в сентябре Афанасия вместе с сослуживцами отправили из Воронежской области в Белгородскую. Марина З. стояла с плакатом у здания правительства Белгородской области, чтобы срочникам выдали древесину для укрытий и отопления. Мать срочника из Алтайского края Галина Андреева записала обращение министру обороны Сергею Шойгу. Ее сына после присяги перевели в Кемеровскую область. Юноше сказали, что его отправят на границу в Белгородскую область. На приеме в воинской части сына командир ей сказал, что, если поступит приказ, срочника отправят. Женщины неоднократно выкладывали ролики в телеграм-канале « Совет матерей и жен ».
В ноябре в День матери россиянки потребовали от Совета Федерации и Госдумы защитить солдат-срочников от участия в любых военных действиях, они составили обращение. Пресс-секретарь президента Дмитрий Песков на вопрос про петицию ответил , что «не понимает, что имеют в виду» женщины.
— В самом начале нашего пути мы думали, что сейчас что-то сделаем и нас услышат. Что их отодвинут, а вперед мобилизованных поставят. А получилось, что мы о стенку будто бьемся. Наши ребята с автоматом Калашникова против артиллерии — это как мальчишка с рогаткой против охотника с ружьем. Они беззащитны, — считает Вероника.
Огласка повлияла на ситуацию в «отрицательную сторону». Депутат от «Единой России» Татьяна Буцкая попросила Следственный комитет возбудить уголовные дела на Веронику и Совет матерей и жен за фейки об армии. Якобы женщины ведут «враждебную антигосударственную и криминальную деятельность». Хотя матери ранее подавали к Буцкой жалобу. А военные начали «чморить» сына Вероники.
— Сын звонил и орал на меня: «Зачем ты это все делаешь?» Об этой деятельности до него дошло через командира. Ему говорили, что из-за матери и тебе худо будет, но сейчас этот момент закончился.
Сына, а я не могу по-другому. Если тебе там влетает, ты всем говори, что это твоя ебанутая мать.
Из него получится хороший программист, он высшее образование собирался получить. Но ему не дали даже поступить. Через пять дней после получения диплома забрали в армию. У него все впереди, а ему сказали: ты единица, твоя жизнь ничего не стоит. Я просто хочу вернуть сына живым, — сказала Вероника.
Активистки подавали обращения к губернатору Вячеславу Гладкову и его заместителям. Белгородский губернатор Вячеслав Гладков 28 марта 2023 года пригласил матерей срочников на встречу. Но на следующий день написал, что две матери отказались от приема. После этого в телеграм-канале Совета матерей и жен появилось сообщение от матерей. Перед встречей сыновья прислали им СМС: «Если ты приедешь, мы перестанем с тобой общаться».
Женщины считают, что главная проблема — в молчании матерей. Они перестают бороться за детей, когда получают отписки или их «прессуют» полицейские.
— После обстрела [16 января] мы нашли мам срочников из Шебекина. Пригласили их созвониться для SOTAvision. Они расплакались и рассказали . А теперь они закрылись. Мы этих детей вырастили, родили, мы их воспитывали, мы их любим. Как волчица будет зубами рвать, своего ребенка отстаивать, так и мы, — убеждена Вероника.
Матери признались, что их дети были измотаны и морально истощены, они не высыпались и болели из-за холода в блиндажах. Сын Вероники шесть дней пролежал с температурой больше 40 градусов. Военные не могли найти машину, чтобы отвезти его на рентген. А когда привезли, у парня обнаружили двустороннюю пневмонию и положили его в больницу. Сына Марины О. с температурой даже не отвезли в госпиталь. Ее ребенок с детства мечтал служить в армии и заключить контракт, но теперь не видит в этом смысла.
— Когда он только приехал, он говорил: надо делать, как-то отсюда сваливать. А затем, когда они двое суток пролежали носом в грязи, он смирился. Но даже сейчас часто повторяет: не понимаю, зачем я здесь, сколько можно копать? Уже все выкопали. Я говорю: когда Соловьев выступал, говорил, что ребята, которые полгода отслужили, уже готовы пойти воевать. Сынок, вы же готовы? Мам, улепетывать и прятаться в блиндажах мы готовы, мы научились, — вспоминала Марина.
Срочникам постоянно обещали вывезти их с границы: сначала в декабре, потом в феврале. Теперь — в мае. Сын Марины О. считает, что их оставят на границе до конца службы.
— Сначала у ребят было приключение. Потом ожидание, что их отправят, им обещали. А теперь — опустошение. Они чувствуют себя преданными и брошенными. Как они будут смотреть на это общество, когда поймут, что их использовали? — сказала Вероника.

Сын Вероники рассказал ей, что в мае на границу вновь прислали срочников. Но в июне их должны поменять на таких же призывников.
Молодого человека Анастасии сначала пообещали вывезти из Шебекина в середине марта. Но «сильная радость» быстро сменилась паникой: а вдруг не успеет и что-то случится? Вдруг соврут? Эта ситуация подтолкнула «свалить» из России.
— Он, когда еще не служил, считал, что это [война] неправильно. На границе он был в отчаянии: «Вот и все, после армии под мобилизацию попаду, опять придется [служить]». Сейчас взял себя в руки. На границе были те, кто шел подписывать контракт. Но большинство стараются об этом не думать. Там больше тех, кто свалит в Грузию или на родину или будут прятаться в лесу от мобилизации, — говорит девушка.
После обстрела в Шебекина 16 января ее молодой человек подал рапорт о том, что они стоят слишком близко к границе. Военные поначалу не хотели его принимать. Рапорт никак не повлиял на ситуацию. В мае Александр все еще служил в приграничном регионе, но скоро должен уехать в свою воинскую часть.
В день, когда он узнал о смерти срочников, молодой человек написал Анастасии:
«Сейчас новость пизда как разлетается. Если родители их [погибших] не глупые, начнут во все инстанции звонить, трезвонить, то, возможно, все [их выведут]. Если родители этих срочников, которых убило, не забьют хуй. Но там и другие родители подключаются. И мои, и пацанов».
