Gas independence of Germany

The RTVI publication writes :

“Analysts call two factors why Germany managed to overcome gas dependence on Russia without significant losses.

Firstly, it is the ability of the German economy to adapt to a changing environment. Some analysts were afraid that the refusal of Russian gas would launch a chain reaction: at first, enterprises depending on electricity (manufacturers of aluminum, chemicals) would fall under the blow, and this would cause problems with the supply chains throughout the country, which would lead to a systemic crisis. In fact, the difficulties of energy -dependent companies did not “throw” other enterprises for themselves, economists emphasized. <...>

Secondly, Germany pursued a competent economic policy-both in the replacement of Russian gas and in the assistance of the population.

The German Ministry of Economy has achieved great success in the quick search for gas supplies from third countries and increasing the power of LNG. According to the results of 2022, Russia took second place in terms of supplies to Germany, losing to Norway. Other large suppliers became Belgium and Czech Republic. ”
