The ECHR awarded compensation to Russians detained and fined due to peaceful protests
The European Court of Human Rights has awarded compensation to residents of Russian cities detained and fined for participating in peaceful protests. The judgments in the cases Mizilin v. Russia, Barkhatova v. Russia and Nebieridze v. Russia are published on the website of the court.
The ECtHR also ruled on 10 complaints from the defendants of Memorial HRC and OVD-Info.
Kavkaz.Realii notes that, among other things, the court also awarded compensation of 3,500 euros to Krasnodar residents Dmitry Svitnev, Nikolai Saprykin and Andrey Zhuzhgov, Stanislav Babanov from Volgograd and Irina Barkhatova from Sochi.

The Court noted violations of several articles of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms at once. In particular, the ECHR pointed to a violation of Article 11 of the Convention, which provides for the right to freedom of assembly, and Article 6, which guarantees the right to a fair trial.
