More than ten people were arrested across Russia for participating in rallies in support of Navalny

Courts across Russia have ordered administrative arrests for more than ten people detained during yesterday's protests in support of politician Alexei Navalny. Data on punishments is collected by the human rights project OVD-Info.

Courts ordered administrative arrests for periods ranging from 7 to 25 days in Moscow and Yekaterinburg. The maximum punishment was handed down in Moscow - the Timiryazevsky District Court of the capital arrested Mikhail Shchepotkin for 25 days, who scattered leaflets on Pushkinskaya Square on June 4. He was found guilty under the article of repeated violation of the “rally” legislation (Part 8 of Article 20.2 of the Administrative Code).

Two more administrative arrests of 15 days each were imposed on Dushan Nichiporenko and Ivan Putyatin . They were found guilty of disobeying the police (Article 19.3 of the Administrative Code). On the day of the action, a Putin citizen held a single picket with a poster “Freedom and kangaroos, Putin is a spider”; it is not known exactly why Nichiporenko was detained.

A resident of the capital, who held a picket on Red Square with a poster “Happy Birthday Lech”, was sent under arrest for 10 days - the court found him guilty of violating the rules of participation in the rally, creating obstacles for pedestrians and traffic (Part 6.1 of Article 20.2 of the Administrative Code) . Later it became known about six more arrests directly for participation in the action in Moscow - for periods ranging from 7 to 15 days.

for 9 days Ekaterinburg resident Mikhail Barantsev was arrested - he was charged with organizing an uncoordinated action (Part 2 of Article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses) due to a rotating picket on the 1905 Square. poster to Barintsev’s case Security forces attached a photo of another activist with a Free Navalny , who was not detained. Barintsev himself claimed that he did not know this picketer, however, despite this, the court decided that they acted together.

In addition, courts in Russia continue to arrest activists who previously published announcements of actions in support of Alexei Navalny. Thus, because of posts calling for people to go to rallies in honor of the politician’s birthday, a 35-year-old resident of Naberezhnye Chelny was arrested for five days - he was convicted under the article on organizing an uncoordinated action (Part 2 of Article 20.2 of the Administrative Code).

In total, according to OVD -Info, more than 120 people were detained in 27 cities at the June 4 protests throughout Russia. Most of the arrests took place in Moscow - it is known that at least 64 people were taken to the capital’s police departments, some of them were left overnight at the police department. Many Russians who took part in the action were also fined by the courts.
