Company Ipsos conducted a study on attitudes towards LGBTQ+ people in 30 countries. Residents of Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Thailand, USA, Argentina, Belgium, Chile, Colombia, Hungary, Ireland, the Netherlands, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Romania, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey were asked, among other things, about their attitude towards marriage of same-sex couples and the adoption of children by them. In most countries, attitudes have worsened.
The researchers highlight that in most of the countries from which they collected data over a decade, approval rates for same-sex marriage and guardianship among same-sex couples rose steadily until 2021, but have either fallen or stagnated since then.
Thus, in the United States, approval of guardianship by LGBT couples fell to the level of ten years ago - 64%, although in 2021 it reached 72%. Only 54% of Americans believe same-sex couples should have the right to marry. In 2021, 59% of respondents thought so.
Approval of LGBT partnerships and parenthood is falling in the US amid a rise in homophobic and transphobic laws.
