The criminal case about “fake news” about the army against a resident of Khabarovsk was dropped in exchange for repentance and “patriotic posts”

A resident of Khabarovsk, whose name has not been released, was accused of spreading "fake news" about the Russian army. However, the court dismissed the criminal case, imposing only a fine on him. The judge explained this decision by the fact that the defendant repented and published several “patriotic posts”.

A criminal case against a Khabarovsk resident was opened for publications in the telegram channel. It is not known what posts are being referred to. "Network Freedoms" write that they concerned prisoners of war.

At the beginning of this year, the Central District Court stopped the criminal prosecution of the man. However, he was still fined - 30 thousand rubles.

The judge explained such a mild sentence by the fact that the defendant committed the crime for the first time, fully admitted his guilt and repented. He also refuted his previous publications and posted several patriotic posts on the same Telegram channel dedicated to the exploits of the Russian military. In addition, the defendant donated 15,000 rubles to an orphanage.

The court considered that in this way the defendant compensated for "the negative consequences of the crime caused to the state and society."

The public prosecutor did not agree with this decision and appealed against it. However, the Khabarovsk regional court left the decision of the court of first instance in force.
