The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation proposed to be recognized as veterans of the border military

The Russian Ministry of Defense proposed recognizing veterans of the military operations of those who "defend" the territories border with Ukraine. Amendments are made to the law "On Veterans".

The status can be obtained, among other things, for the "fulfillment of the tasks to repel armed invasion, the protection of constitutional rights of citizens, maintaining law and order, stabilizing the situation, the protection and defense of important government facilities."

This proposal is probably associated with the regular shelling of the regions of Russia - Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk, Rostov and Voronezh - and the armed invasions of the Liberty of Russia Legion and the Russian Volunteer Corps that occurred in March and May 2023.

The status of a veteran implies social benefits, for example 50% compensation for expenses for payment of residential premises and "the predominant use of all types of services of communications, culture and sports organizations."

At the end of April, the State Duma adopted a bill veterans of military personnel from the so -called "DPR" and "LPR", as well as fighters of private military companies.

• According to the publication "7x7", soldiers of military service are sent to the very border with Ukraine. At the end of May 2023, at least seven conscripts were killed on the border with Ukraine. Relatives of conscripts said that the soldiers are at a distance of 200-300 meters from Ukraine, but technically "outside the zone of military operations", as required by the law. Contributions are also closer to the border than border guards and Rosgvardists who patrol the perimeter. Drawers live in dugouts, dig trenches, fall under shelling and receive injuries, go to outfits and carry guard like border guards.
