The FSB opened a case of violation of state secrets against a former employee of the Ural Rosatom plant who tried to leave for Abkhazia

The FSB Directorate for the Sverdlovsk Region opened a criminal case against a 55-year-old resident of the closed administrative town of Lesnoy, who previously worked at the city-forming enterprise Elektrokhimpribor, part of Rosatom. The department's press service reported this to E1.ru and Vecherniye Vedomosti .

The Ural resident, according to the release, recently retired after almost 16 years of work at the company. Due to the fact that he worked with data, “the disclosure of which could cause damage to the external and internal security of Russia,” the man was required to sign that he could not leave the country until April 2023.

“The man ignored this measure and in January of this year tried to leave for the Republic of Abkhazia. Security officers stopped the exit,” the department claims. A case was opened against him for attempting to leave the country in violation of restrictions on protecting state secrets (part 3 of article 30, part 1 of article 283.2 of the Criminal Code).

In May, the FSB already reported on the persecution under the same article of a Muscovite, who, due to his work, also had access to information of special importance, resigned, and then left Russia. The article itself appeared in the Criminal Code shortly after the start of the war in Ukraine - in July 2022.

The first part of the article, which is charged against a Ural resident from the Closed Administrative Okrug of Lesnoy, implies up to three years in prison. At the same time, the punishment for attempted crime cannot exceed three quarters of the maximum term under the article.
