The Lefortovo District Court of Moscow allowed six searches to be carried out in cases of high treason (Article 275 of the Criminal Code). Mediazona found information about this on the website of the capital’s courts.

In the practice of Russian courts, Article 275 of the Criminal Code (treason) has always remained rare; cases under it were initiated mainly in connection with espionage.

After February 24, 2022, the concept of high treason expanded sharply ; security forces began to open cases under Article 275 of the Criminal Code both for donations from the Armed Forces of Ukraine and for attempts to leave for Ukraine. In November, security forces for the first time opened a criminal case of preparation for treason against a 21-year-old student from Astrakhan.
