The Department of Justice has prepared a report on how its employees monitor “foreign agents” as well as persons “affiliated” with them. Document in the telegram channel of the State Duma Commission for Investigating External Interference.
published In its report, the Ministry of Justice for the first time disclosed the number of people in the closed register of persons “affiliated” with “foreign agents”: as of December 31, 2022, there were 861 people on this list. Who these people are is not disclosed in the document. Justice Ministry officials claim that most of them were related to “activities during the preparation and conduct of elections.”
According to the report, in 2022, the Ministry of Justice recognized 188 people and legal entities as “foreign agents,” an increase of 42.6% compared to the same figure for 2021. The department explains this increase in the number of “foreign agents” with an increase in the number of negative publications about the Russian authorities and “events” in Ukraine.
